Anti-Candida Diet

Get the clear skin, increased energy and digestive wellness that go along with an anti-Candida diet and balanced intestinal health. It may take a little extra effort initially (chopping vegetables is more time consuming than opening a tin!), but following a Candida diet goes a long way towards:
  • bringing balance to blood sugar levels
  • normalizing the body's metabolic response
  • correcting gut ratios of good to bad bacteria
  • improving digestive tract functioning
  • increasing energy and vitality and, of particular note for those searching this site,
  • turning problem skin into clear, radiant and healthy skin.
What is an Anti-Candida Diet?

Simply put, an anti-Candida diet is a dietary plan that eliminates or very seriously limits, the types of foods that feed Candida Albicans. When a yeast overgrowth has occurred in the body and a person is exhibiting a number of the symptoms of Candida imbalance, one of the easiest ways to get the gut terrain back into proper balance is by eating foods that are not particularly Candida Albicans' favorite foods—eating from the Candida Foods List—and eliminating foods that Candida thrives on.

Anti-Candida Diet Nuts
That means eating a wide range of colorful and delicious low starch vegetables, munching on raw (or home roasted) nuts and seeds or nut/seed butters, enjoying a wide range of animal and vegetables protein-rich foods (i.e. meats, eggs, legumes) and getting enough healthy-source fats (i.e. coconut oil, olive oil). In addition, a Candida yeast diet means avoiding foods that have the sugar content Candida loves (i.e. refined grains, sugars, even most dairy because of its lactose content), as well as staying away from foods that contain yeast, are fermented, or are fungal (either actual fungal foods such as mushrooms or foods that are mycotoxic and tend to have a high fungal content).

Anti-Candida diet foods can be served raw or cooked but including some raw vegetables each day is a good idea. The enzymes found in raw produce are helpful tools to enhance weak digestion—often a contributing factor to problem skin. Anti-Candida diets also often include yeast-killing supplements such as homeopathics, Grapefruit Seed Extract or a variety of appropriate herbs.

Do I Need to Follow the Anti-Candida Diet Completely?

Our bodies are created in a miraculous manner and they generally respond positively to any measure of improved nutrition, exercise and supplementation. It follows, therefore that the more completely one keeps to the recommended dietary plan the quicker, more positive and more far-reaching the benefits. It is important to move into an Candida diet slowly, over the course of 10-14 days, to help minimize Candida die-off symptoms but once a start date has been picked and reached, try to follow the plan as completely as possible.

On the other hand, when a dietary plan feels impossibly strict, it is better to follow the plan as well as one can but allow for a set amount of less than most healthful choices (i.e. ½ cup of coffee per day). While improvement will happen on a slower basis, the changes—improved levels of energy, wellness and mental clarity, slower but healthy skin improvement—will still be very positive and are significantly better than abandoning all wellness choices.

How Do I Move From a SAD to an Anti-Candida Diet?

During the couple week transition period from a Standard North American Diet (SAD) to an anti-Candida diet, gradually reduce your intake of:
  • refined grains
  • sugars
  • caffeine and
  • processed foods
and gradually increase intake of:
  • vegetables
  • healthy fats
  • healthy animal and vegetable protein and
  • clean water.
Be sure you have put together a couple of weeks worth of menu plans and have grocery-shopped for those menu plans. Clean out the kitchen cupboards and fridge of problematic—and possibly tempting—foods and have enough healthy snacks in place. Read through the material on minimizing Candida die-off symptoms and be prepared to follow suggestions if you have a couple rough days.

Then, just go for it. Be strict, especially for the first 4-5 days of a cleanse or dietary change. With skin problems, closely following the Begin Within Natural Skincare natural organic skin care plan and Anti-Candida Diet for at least two-four weeks is even better. That way one has a really good idea of what is working and of what to expect for the future positive condition of the skin.

Once your Candida symptoms are minimized and your skin is well on its way to health, gradually begin to bring foods not on the anti-Candida diet, back into your diet. Monitor for responses and adjust food intake accordingly. Hopefully you will never go back to a diet that includes non-foods such as pop, poor quality candy and artificial sweeteners but you will likely have fruit, whole grains and some dairy—perhaps raw and organic—in your dietary plan again.

If you haven't already, complete the Dietary Needs Assessment to determine your body type and eat from the foods list that is best for your type. Continue to monitor skin condition. If it seems grains, fruit or dairy are an issue, do some more elimination. Perhaps try the Specific Carbohydrate Diet or simply go back to the Anti-Candida Dietary plan for a longer time period and be sure you have followed all the additional suggestions in the Candida Cleanse information. Eventually, you'll get it right, your gut bacteria levels will balance, food intolerances will be minimized and that healthy, clear and glowing skin you have been looking for will be your reward!
